Add your people.
Your kids, your partner, your nieces and nephews. Just two or three photos of each is enough for Veilum to recognize them later.
Veilum covers faces in your photos with emoji and hand-drawn stickers, so you can share the moment without putting their faces on the internet. Everything happens on your phone. Your photos never leave it.
You show Veilum the faces of the people you want to protect. The next time you go to share a photo, Veilum covers those faces with a sticker. Everyone else in the picture looks just like they did.
Your kids, your partner, your nieces and nephews. Just two or three photos of each is enough for Veilum to recognize them later.
Pick the photos you want to post. Veilum finds the faces you've added and covers them in one tap, with an emoji or one of our stickers.
Save the covered photos and post them anywhere you like. Everyone else's face looks normal. Nothing ever leaves your phone.
With Veilum, privacy isn't a setting you have to turn on. It's just how the app works. There's no website to get hacked, no account to break into, and nothing watching what's in your photos.
Free to download. No account to make. Works without an internet connection.
Veilum runs entirely on your phone. Nothing about you leaves your device. The text below covers the specifics that privacy laws like GDPR, CCPA, and state biometric-privacy laws ask us to spell out.
The short version. Veilum runs entirely on your phone. We don't run any servers that receive your photos or the faces you've added. The longer text below exists because some of the laws that apply to apps like Veilum ask us to be specific about a few things.
Veilum is operated by Elixirly, LLC. "We," "us," and "Veilum" mean Elixirly, LLC. You can reach us at hello@veilum.app, and our privacy team at privacy@veilum.app.
When you enroll a person in Veilum, the app uses a photo you provide to create a numerical face embedding, a vector of numbers your phone can later compare to other photos to find the same person. This embedding is a form of biometric information used to identify a specific individual.
The embedding, the name you gave the person, your sticker preferences, and a local log of how many faces Veilum covered in each photo all live in Veilum's private storage on your device. None of this is sent to a server we operate, because we don't run any servers that receive personal information. There is no Veilum account, no email, no phone number, no sign-in.
Because face embeddings are a sensitive category of information under several privacy laws, we want to be specific about how we handle them.
We do not sell, lease, trade, or otherwise profit from biometric data, and we do not share it with any third party.
Veilum only reads photos from your library when you choose specific photos to cover. We don't make our own copy of those photos, scan them in the background, or send them anywhere. Covered photos are only written back to your library when you tap Save.
If Veilum crashes, your phone's operating system can send a small diagnostic report to Apple or Google. Those reports are governed by Apple's and Google's privacy policies, not ours, and we don't receive a copy. They do not contain your photos, the embeddings you've created, or anything that identifies you to us. You can turn them off in your phone's settings (iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements; Android: Settings → Privacy → Usage & Diagnostics).
When you download Veilum from the App Store or Google Play, Apple or Google receives information about that download, including your store account, device, IP address, and similar, as part of how their stores work. That collection is theirs, not ours, and is governed by their privacy policies. We do not receive it.
Veilum contains no third-party analytics SDKs, no advertising kits, no remote configuration services that read your data, and no other code that sends information about you to anyone. We do not sell, share, rent, or trade any information about you.
Veilum is intended for adults who want to cover the faces of children or other people in their photos. The app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect any information from a user we know to be under 13. If you are a parent and believe a child under 13 has used Veilum on a device you control, open Veilum → Settings → Reset Veilum to remove all enrolled people and local data, or contact privacy@veilum.app for help.
Even though Veilum stores data only on your device, certain laws give you rights regarding personal information processed about you. The specific rights depend on where you live, but they generally include the right to know what is processed about you, to correct it, to delete it, to restrict or object to its processing, to data portability, to opt out of any sale or sharing, and to limit the use of sensitive personal information (including biometric information).
Because Veilum stores data only on your device and we don't run servers that receive your data, you can exercise most of these rights directly inside the app:
If you live in the EU, UK, or Switzerland, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority. If you live in California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Indiana, Iowa, Montana, Tennessee, Delaware, New Hampshire, New Jersey, or another US state with a comprehensive privacy law, your state's law gives you the rights listed above.
We do not discriminate against you for exercising any privacy right. To make a request or appeal a denial, email privacy@veilum.app and we will respond within 30 days (or the period required by your local law, if shorter).
Because all data lives on your device, deletion is fast:
The same instructions are also published as a standalone Delete your data section at the bottom of this page, so they can be linked directly from the App Store and Google Play listings.
Embeddings and other Veilum data are stored in the app's private container, which iOS and Android isolate from other apps on the device. No system is perfectly secure, but because the data never leaves the secure container, an attacker would need physical or operating-system-level access to your specific phone to reach it.
Veilum is offered worldwide. Because we don't transmit your data anywhere, there is no cross-border transfer of personal data initiated by us. Your data remains on your device, which is governed by the laws of the place where that device is used.
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above and, if the change is material, we'll show you a notice inside the app before the change takes effect. Continued use of Veilum after a material change means you accept the updated policy.
Privacy questions, requests, or complaints: privacy@veilum.app.
By using Veilum, you agree to the terms below. They cover the basics any consumer app needs, plus a few items specific to face recognition. Section 13 (Disputes) affects your legal rights; please read it.
The short version. Veilum is a phone app that covers faces in photos you already have. By using it you agree to a few things: that you have the right to enroll the people you enroll, that you'll review every covered photo before sharing it, that our total liability to you is capped, and that you'll resolve any dispute with us by individual arbitration unless you opt out within 30 days. Details below.
By installing, opening, or using Veilum (the "App"), you agree to these Terms of Use ("Terms") and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, don't install or use Veilum.
Veilum is operated by Elixirly, LLC. "We," "us," and "Veilum" mean Elixirly, LLC.
You must be at least 13 years old to use Veilum, and at least 18 (or the age of majority where you live) to agree to these Terms on your own. If you are between 13 and the age of majority, you may use Veilum only with the permission and supervision of a parent or legal guardian, who agrees to be bound by these Terms on your behalf. Veilum is not intended for children under 13.
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use Veilum on devices you own or control, for your own personal, non-commercial use, subject to these Terms and any rules set by Apple's App Store or Google Play.
You are responsible for the photos you choose to cover with Veilum, the people you choose to enroll, and the photos you choose to share after using Veilum.
For every person you enroll in Veilum, you represent and warrant that one of the following is true:
You also represent and warrant that you have the right to use, modify, and share each photo you process with Veilum.
Veilum's face recognition runs on your phone and uses a numerical embedding to compare faces. It is not perfect. It can fail to recognize an enrolled person, mistakenly recognize someone you didn't enroll, or place a sticker imperfectly.
You are responsible for reviewing every covered photo before you share it. Veilum makes no warranty that it will detect every face, that any warning it shows about a possibly-missed face will be accurate, that any face it does cover will remain covered after the photo is edited, recompressed, or otherwise processed by another app or service, or that a sticker cannot be removed or worked around by a third party.
You agree not to use Veilum:
We may suspend or terminate your access to Veilum at any time if we reasonably believe you've violated this section, including by issuing an update that disables specific functionality on your device.
Veilum's stickers, illustrations, code, models, brand, and trademarks are owned by us or our licensors. We grant you a license to use them inside the App as the App intends. Your photos remain entirely yours; we claim no license or other right to them.
You access Veilum through Apple's App Store or Google Play, each of which has its own terms. If there is a conflict between these Terms and an app store's terms with respect to your relationship with that store, the app store's terms govern that relationship. Apple and Google are intended third-party beneficiaries of these Terms for the limited purpose of enforcing them against you if you violate them.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITH ALL FAULTS AND WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS, IMPLIED, STATUTORY, OR OTHERWISE, INCLUDING ANY WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, AND ANY WARRANTIES ARISING FROM COURSE OF DEALING OR USAGE OF TRADE. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE APP WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE; THAT IT WILL DETECT EVERY FACE; OR THAT ANY COVERED FACE WILL REMAIN COVERED AFTER THE PHOTO LEAVES THE APP.
Some jurisdictions don't allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT WILL WE, OR OUR OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, OR AGENTS, BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, GOODWILL, OR REPUTATION, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF (OR INABILITY TO USE) THE APP, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. OUR TOTAL CUMULATIVE LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS OR THE APP WILL NOT EXCEED ONE HUNDRED US DOLLARS (US$100), REGARDLESS OF THE BASIS OF THE CLAIM.
Some jurisdictions don't allow the limitation of certain damages, so parts of this section may not apply to you. The limits above apply to the maximum extent permitted by law.
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold us, along with our officers, employees, and agents, harmless from any claim, demand, loss, damage, cost, or expense (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or related to:
Please read this section carefully. It affects your legal rights.
Informal resolution first. Most disputes can be resolved without a lawsuit. Before filing any formal claim, you agree to first email us at legal@veilum.app with a description of the dispute and give us at least 60 days to try to resolve it informally.
Binding individual arbitration. If we can't resolve a dispute informally, you and we agree that any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to these Terms or the App, including their formation, breach, termination, validity, interpretation, or enforceability, will be resolved by binding individual arbitration administered by JAMS under its Streamlined Arbitration Rules. The arbitration will be held in Greenville, South Carolina, or by phone or video if you prefer. The arbitrator's decision is final and may be entered as a judgment in any court of competent jurisdiction. Either party may instead bring an individual action in small-claims court if it qualifies.
YOU AND WE AGREE THAT ANY DISPUTE WILL BE BROUGHT IN AN INDIVIDUAL CAPACITY ONLY, AND NOT AS A PLAINTIFF OR CLASS MEMBER IN ANY CLASS, CONSOLIDATED, OR REPRESENTATIVE ACTION. THE ARBITRATOR MAY NOT CONSOLIDATE THE CLAIMS OF MULTIPLE USERS OR PRESIDE OVER ANY FORM OF REPRESENTATIVE PROCEEDING.
30-day opt-out. You can opt out of this section by emailing optout@veilum.app within 30 days of first installing Veilum (or, for users who already use Veilum when these Terms first apply, within 30 days of that date) with your name, a device identifier or email you'd like associated with the opt-out, and a clear statement that you want to opt out of arbitration. If you opt out, this section won't apply to you, but the rest of these Terms will.
This section survives termination of these Terms. If a court holds any part of this section unenforceable, the rest of the section will continue to apply, except that if the class-action waiver is held unenforceable as to a particular claim, the entire Disputes section will be void only as to that claim.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of South Carolina, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. To the extent any dispute is not subject to arbitration, you and we agree to the exclusive jurisdiction and venue of the state and federal courts located in Greenville County, South Carolina, and waive any objection to that venue.
You can stop using Veilum at any time by uninstalling it. We can suspend or terminate your access to all or any part of Veilum at any time, with or without notice, if we reasonably believe you've violated these Terms or to protect the App, our users, or third parties. The sections of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination, including Sections 5, 6, 8, and 10 through 18, will survive.
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make a material change, we'll show you a notice inside the App and update the "Last updated" date above before the change takes effect. Your continued use of Veilum after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms. If you don't accept them, your only remedy is to stop using Veilum.
You represent that you are not located in, and are not a national or resident of, any country subject to a US government embargo or designated by the US government as a "terrorist-supporting" country, and that you are not on any US government list of restricted or denied parties.

Because Veilum stores everything on your phone, deletion happens inside the app. There's nothing on our end to delete, because there's no "our end." These instructions are published here so they can be linked directly from app store listings.
Open Veilum → tap the person you want to remove → tap Remove. The face embedding and the person's name are destroyed immediately from your phone.
Open Veilum → Settings → Reset Veilum. This erases every embedding, name, sticker preference, and history entry the app has stored on your device.
Removing Veilum from your phone removes its private storage along with it. Nothing about you remains on any server we run, because we don't run any.
Email privacy@veilum.app and we'll walk you through it.
